Jobs Boost for Yorkshire

26/08/2009

Low-cost airline Ryanair is creating thousands of new jobs in the Yorkshire region due to its new base at Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA).

The £28 million development will see the airport nearly double in size and benefit from Ryanair’s £84 million investment and 14 new routes which include destinations such as France, Malaga, Venice, Faro, Ibiza, Krakow and Malta.

The announcement of the airlines 34th base which is set to open March 2010 brings much needed Yorkshire Jobs as an extra one million passengers are expected through the airport each year.

The airport is already a major employer in the area currently employing 2,200 employees but the new developments look set to create a further 2,000 construction jobs and engineering jobs due to the intended use of local labor and industry.

LBIA’s Chief Executive John Parkin commented “We are committed to the transformation of the airport to assist the region’s economy by encouraging inward investment and creating more jobs”.
