Freelance contractors predict successful 2009

Freelance contractors predict a positive 2009 with nearly half saying they are comfortable with their current contracts, a survey has found.
The study by Watford-based service solutions provider JSA, quizzed 480 contactors from a variety of industries, Onrec.com has reported.
"The results of this survey show that contractors are generally an optimistic and self-confident breed", sales and marketing director Rick Flood told the website.
Contractors who thought they might lose their current arrangement remain positive they would secure another, (51.8 per cent) and 40.7 per cent think pay will rise by at least five per cent.
Although six in ten of those polled did say the market for their skill would lessen.
Freelance work carries with it responsibilities not found in regular secretarial or legal jobs.
Workers need to submit their own tax returns and were warned recently by the government to get them in on time.
Figures released today by National Statistics show UK unemployment has risen to 1.92 million, the highest since September 1997.
