PM quizzed over job losses
12/02/2009
Gordon Brown is facing questions after the latest jobless figures revealed unemployment has risen.
The prime minister is answering queries from the Commons committee, a panel of senior MPs, keen to hear him explain the state of the economy and the labour market.
It has been reported they will ask him to make clear the causes of recession, rising unemployment and the resignation of the Financial Services Authority's deputy chairman, Sir James Crosby.
The PM will also be quizzed on his policy regarding executive bonuses Mr Brown said recently he wanted to "sweep away" the practice.
Further pressure was piled on the prime minister yesterday, after latest national statistics showed unemployment has reached 1.97 million.
However, there has been some positive employment news - the department of transport has said a new contract to build 'super express' trains will create thousands of jobs.
