Health & safety improvements on MCG sites

11/01/2008

Since 2000 the rate of accident incidences on construction sites of Major Contractors Group (MCG) has been cut by 45 per cent.

The MCG's Health and Safety Charter aims to encourage the industry's management to improve health and safety standards on all construction sites.

Commenting on the figures, Vaughan Burnand, chairman of the MCG's health and safety group, said: "There are clear indications that the action taken to improve health and safety on site continues to show positive results.

"However, this is just a further step on a relentless journey and we must increase our efforts wherever possible to maintain this year on year improvement. We all recognise there is no room for complacency. The challenges we face as an industry are considerable – as indeed is the effort we need to demonstrate to meet those challenges."

In addition the MCG Annual Report highlighted that by March 2007, 86 per cent of MCG employees, subcontractors and agency staff carried a card from an MCG Accepted Record Scheme relevant to their role.

Meanwhile, the MCG has called for supervisors on its sites to attend a two-day ConstructionSkills health and safety training course.ADNFCR-1196-ID-18423903-ADNFCR
