Construction industry lends support to climate change bill

01/02/2008

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has spearheaded a collective offer of support from the built environment industry's professionals to the government with regards to climate change.

A letter signed by 27 chairmen and presidents of leading construction bodies was sent to the government expressing the industry's backing of its commitment to limit carbon emissions, in a bid to combat climate change.

Graham Watts, chief executive of CIC, commented: "CIC and its member organisations are committed to helping the government deliver these targets and we are keen that these issues are given the highest priority.

"In the long term the industry would like to see all nations set out on the path to verifiably limit global emissions by 2050. Our members have the responsibility for designing, constructing and managing the built environment which is responsible for half the current level of carbon emissions, so we have a huge role to play in achieving the necessary change."

The construction industry has shown that it welcomes the governments plan to make all new homes and schools carbon neutral by 2016.ADNFCR-1196-ID-18451174-ADNFCR
