12/02/2008

Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone has released the first review of progress in delivering the Greater London Authorities Responsible Procurement Policy.

The evaluation aims to outline how the GLA supports its suppliers and implements its policies.

He said: "We've seen some real progress within the group in implementing responsible procurement over the last 12 months, from recycling improvements to London Living's Wage, the East London Line, the Green Procurement Code and the LDA's new online toolkit for smaller businesses."

The mayor claimed that since adopting the policy the Metropolitan Police Service, the London Fire Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) and Transport for London (TfL) have all incorporated responsible procurement in awarding contracts.

"As a world-class city, it is only right that we lead the way on making sure London buys its goods and services responsibly," he went on.

Builders of new offices are experimenting with renewable materials and regeneration initiatives to help reduce their carbon footprint.
