Britain is ready for green construction

22/02/2008

The British public is ready to buy into alternative energy and wants more eco-friendly buildings, a survey has found.

According to research by Standard Life, 96 per cent of people are either ready or planning to help the environment.

It revealed that the British house looks set to change, as three in five people would now consider buying a property with solar panels and 40 per cent would go for a carbon neutral home.

"Increasing awareness of the environmental impact that our lifestyles may have on our surroundings could potentially change the look of our homes in the future," said head of communications, Ruth Wilkins.

Most people have already implemented some energy saving initiatives - the research found 78 per cent are either turning off or intending to turn off lights and seven in ten have stopped leaving their televisions on standby.

The public is being asked to turn off any unnecessary electrical equipment on February 27th as part of a new drive called E-Day.ADNFCR-1196-ID-18480475-ADNFCR
