Job creation figures released

04/03/2008

Engineering, industrial and materials processing jobs are all on the rise according to the February 2008 Job Creation Index (JCI), Onrec has reported.

Its figures show that 1,090 new positions were created, an improvement of 60 per cent since this time last year.

The JCI measured job intentions and it found the engineering and technical sectors both performed well.

Keith Gallagher, managing director of Roevin which conducted the research, said its figures were "extremely positive" and highlighted "an upsurge in job demand across a number of industry areas".

He continued: "The good news is maintained in the form of engineering and materials employment which seems to have been buoyed by the increase in UK manufacturing we’ve witnessed over the past 12 months."

There has been further news of the Department for Work and Pensions' proposed job cuts.

Permanent secretary Sir Leigh Lewis warned that no areas were exempt from the efficiency savings, which could include compulsory redundancies, it has been reported.
