Wind farm to create construction jobs
22/07/2008
A new onshore windfarm - Europe's largest - that is to be built in Scotland, will create a number of jobs in the area during the construction phase.
Following approval for the farm, which will hold some 152 turbines, it was announced that around 200 construction jobs will be created, while total investment in the project is set to reach some £600 million.
First minister for Scotland, Alex Salmond, said: "The Clyde wind farm will represent a very important step in the development of renewable energy in Scotland and in meeting shared European targets."
Constructing the 152 turbines will help Scotland meet its targets for renewable energy generation.
As well as the development of the onshore windfarm, an offshore project in the North Sea could lead to the creation of 30,000 jobs and bring around £3 billion in investment, the Times reports.
According to the Telegraph, around 30 permanent jobs will be created at the site once construction work is complete.
