Small firms seek savings from home

12/08/2008

Small UK firms are most enthusiastic about adopting homeworking practices, new research by O2 has suggested.

It revealed half of its outsourced work came from businesses that work outside of formal office arrangements.

Creative design agency Cascade has moved from its office and partner in the firm Ben Reid noted for clients at least "nothing changed".

He told the Times his company retained its phone number and "still had the same e-mail addresses and our landline phone number even remained the same".

However, flexible working does not suit all professions. Workers in construction jobs are less likely to work from home than those in secretarial posts.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has made his views clear. He previously said it was "a euphemism for sloth, apathy, staring out of the window and random surfing of the internet".
