Green sector offers great jobs potential

The green jobs sector is likely to see an increase in employment levels in the next year, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has said.

Public policy adviser for the CIPD, Gerwyn Davies, said that there is the potential for millions of green jobs in the future.

"It's about matching the skills needed for those jobs [with the right person]. We have been saying to look to the future as well as the [present] if you can - the big growth we will see is in green jobs with lots of government funding coming in," he said.

One advantage to green sectors, he added, was that there was such a variety of jobs, ranging from engineering to construction and more.

According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, redundancy figures have risen by 49,000 over the last year, 41,000 of which came in the third quarter of the year with the losses coming from big banks and high street stores.
